Bob Newton spent 11 years in the NFL as a Guard for the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks before moving on to counseling and directing programs at Hazeldon Betty Ford Center. Comedy writer Caleb Bacon from MAN SCHOOL Podcast sits in for Bob Forrest who checks in from the delivery room at the hospital where his girl friend Krissy begins to give birth to a new baby girl!


Bob Newton was a consensus All-American Offensive Tackle for Nebraska’s undefeated 1970 National Championship college football team.  He was inducted into the Nebraska football Hall of Fame in 1989.  In 2000 the Nebraska football fans voted him on the Nebraska football all Century Team. In 2010 Bleachers.com identified Bob as one of the top 50 players in Cornhuskers history.

Bob played in the Senior Bowl, College All-Star game and Coaches All-American game while in college.

He played with the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks as an offensive  lineman  for an eleven-year NFL career and was named Seahawks “Lineman of the Year” in 1980. He was coached by outstanding and long term NFL offensive line coach Howard Mudd.

Bob has coached offensive lineman at the high school level in the state of Washington  at Bellarmine Prep and East High school in Lincoln, Nebraska, junior college football at Fullerton College and College of the Desert in California ,small college football at Puget Sound University in the state of Washington and freshman offensive line coach at the University of Nebraska.

Bob has worked in the chemical dependency field for over 30 years and has been a Certified Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counselor { CADAC } since 1988.  He was a consultant for the Seattle Seahawks Alcohol and Drug Program for 10 years.

In 2004 Bob appeared before US Congress as an expert witness regarding underage drinking on behalf of Congressman Tom Osborne from Nebraska.

He has worked with many professional, college and high school athletes, coaches, teachers and administrators providing education on the appropriate response to substance use on athletic teams.

Bob has given numerous lectures and seminars for elementary schools, middle schools and high schools regarding prevention, intervention and treatment for chemical dependency.

Today, Bob works for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. He has worked in several capacities with HBFF the last fiftheen years that  has included : Director of Day Treatment, Director of Business Development and Lead counselor.  He was also part of the counseling team that helped start the Betty Ford Center’s professionals program in December, 2000. He is  recognized as a national and international professional speaker for the last 25 years. Bob has traveled throughout the states and other countries speaking to a variety of groups about addiction and recovery.

Bob has a master’s degree in psychology with a specialty in addiction psychology.
