Dr. Drew comments on Pres. Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis: I have prostate cancer. I had a prostatectomy 12 years ago. I’ve helped patients with prostate cancer for 40 years. If caught early, it is very treatable. So this story about doctors finding a nodule & suddenly Pres. Biden has metastatic disease? It doesn’t pass the sniff test.
Some may argue: isn’t Biden entitled to confidential health care? Now that he is a private citizen – yes. But while President? I think not. If a pilot is climbing into the flight deck & physicians see impairment, we have an OBLIGATION to ask questions. A President is the pilot of the USA, and we have a right to know if our leaders can steer us safely.
Let Biden’s case be a warning to all men: get your PSA early after 50. Start at 40 if you have a first degree relative with Prostate Cancer. Your doctor does NOT need to stick a finger up your butt to check your prostate – PSA blood tests are more accurate than a DRE.
