Dr. Drew’s Answer

Do not ever dismiss suicidal threats of ideation. Suicide is a symptom of severe Depression. It is a medical emergency and should be dealt with accordingly by contacting her medical provider or the police if she expresses a plan. It is sad, but you are not responsible for her Depression nor the care of her Depression. She is naturally someone you care about very deeply and it is difficult to see her suffering but your job is to get her to help, not to try to be the help.

No one wants to stay in a relationship out of pity but for some people feelings of abandonment are truly intolerable. And for these individuals, professional help is necessary.
